December 2017- JCP&L Announces Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Classroom Grant Winners

PRNewswire/ -- Eleven New Jersey teachers have been awarded Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) classroom grants from FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE).  The grants, totaling almost $8,000, will be used for a variety of hands-on projects, workshops and
academic programs across Jersey Central Power & Light's (JCP&L) service area. Congratulations Chris Zrada and Cheryl McDonald, Marine Academy of Science and technology, Highlands – Designing removable guards for utility lines to protect large bird species from contacting the lines.

November 2017- Students Try Blacksmithing to Learn New Skills
SANDY HOOK - Technology instructor Christopher Zrada implemented an innovative means of introducing students at MAST, the Marine Academy of Science and Technology, to different ways of working with material, while at the same time providing them with an historical perspective.

October 2017- Students Restore Dunes and earn the Eco-Schools Bronze Award
SANDY HOOK, NJ - While the country is reeling from Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, efforts are still underway to restore the extensive damage done by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Marine Academy of Science and Technology (MAST) is on the job. Students developed and implemented a plan to increase dune vegetation lost in hurricane Sandy. Their efforts earned the school a Bronze Award from Eco-Schools USA a National Wildlife Federation program orchestrated by New Jersey Audubon here in New Jersey. Full Article Here

September 2017- Cadet Ryan Elmiger (MAST '17) is an Air Force ROTC cadet and member of the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech. He is one three Va Tech cadets selected to carry the American flag, Virginia state flag, and Va Tech flag off the football field at Va Tech's home game tomorrow against the Fightin' Blue Hens of the University of Delaware. Ryan was chosen for this honor for exemplifying determination and teamwork during New Cadet Week. Article here

April 2017- NJ Skills USA Championships
The following students represented the Culinary Education Center at the Skills USA State-Level competition on Saturday, April 8 at the Garden State Exhibition Center in Somerset, NJ.

More than 1600 competitors competed in over 90 hands-on skill and leadership contests this year. Congratulations on the Great work by all who competed. Two of the CEC Students “took home the gold”, Chanel Crawford and Beth Estelle. 
The gold-medal winners are now eligible to test their skills in Louisville, Kentucky from June 19-24 at the 53nd annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference.
The Culinary Education Center is collaboration between Brookdale Community College and Monmouth County Vocational School District.


March 16, 2017- Congratulations to the 2017 MCVSD Caring Award Recipients 

The students were recognized at the Monmouth County Guidance Directors Association Caring Award Ceremony at Brookdale Community College on. These students have shown exceptional caring/compassion to a cause, group, or program during their high school career.
